Henderson Community

Henderson is a small city of around 207,640 as of April, 2002, located in southern Nevada, at 36.03 degrees north of the equator & 115.00 degrees west, at an elevation of 1,940 feet above sea level, only about a mile from Lake Mead and 7 miles from the world famous Las Vegas Strip area in Clark County.

Henderson is home to Green Valley, South West of Las Vegas.  This city is a $3.8 billion residential/resort community, features four golf courses, two of which are designed by Jack Nicklaus, and 45 custom home sites. The South Shore course has been named by Golf Digest as one of the top 10 private golf courses in the United States. The Seven Hills development is composed of more than 40 model homes – many with elegant Italian and Mediterranean architectural features – and uniquely designed parks and trails. The MacDonald Ranch retirement community has its own golf course, Desert Willow, as well as a variety of outstanding amenities. Reasonably priced housing is located closer to the center of town for University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and an electric selection of book-stores and cafes. The new Las Vegas beltway connects the southeast part of the Valley with the rest of the city. Homeowners need not travel more than a few minutes for business or pleasure, which includes restaurants; shopping, including the new Galleria mall; and casinos, such as the Fiesta Henderson and Sunset Station.

Henderson History

The city of Henderson is first settled in 1929 when it was known as Pittman.  Neighboring Basic Townsite was later settled in 1941 with the annexations all being post war additions.

Pittman settlement was the result of the Boulder Dam construction.  It was also known as Midway City.  The tents and temporary buildings ruled the land until the construction was completed, leaving Pittman in a declining state.  The Basic Magnesium Plant was later built as a result of WWII brought life back to the town.  It was then granted a post office and its name changed to Midway City.  The city was officially named Henderson in 1943 after the late Senator Charles B. Henderson as the construction of the magnesium plant completed.

Henderson is not only one of the faster developing cities in Nevada, it also has several of the largest developments under construction in the State.

Henderson Lifestyle

Most people think of Las Vegas as the “Entertainment Capital” of the world, extending outward from “The Strip.”  Those who chose it as their home are pleasantly surprised to realize that Las Vegas is also a FANTASTIC place to live as well as to play…and that the majority of the residents do not actually live in the city itself.  The boundaries of the city proper meander quite a bit as they touch the cities of North Las Vegas, Henderson and it’s Green Valley area, and the unincorporated county area which extends south from Charleston all the way to the Black Hills and Seven Hills areas, east to about Eastern, and West past Fort Apache.  Some of the loveliest and most charming places to live are in the southern part of this unincorporated area, as well as the Henderson and Green Valley areas.

From the glitz of Downtown to the beautiful snowcapped peaks of the surrounding mountains you will find an incredible number of activities.  Winter skiing, swimming, boating or fishing on Lake Mead, hiking, climbing, repelling, riding horseback, camping, or enjoying nature either as an individual adventurer or at Red Rock Nature Preserve, the fast-pace of city living can be yours to juxtaposition with activities stark desert terrain.  It is also a golfer's paradise with championship courses.  And away from the man-made excitement is a world of natural beauty unlike any place else on this earth.  Discover what almost 50,000 people who relocate here each year find ... a near-perfect climate, favorable cost of living with no state income tax, and no inheritance, gift or estate taxes.  Add this to a healthy job market and a business friendly environment, and you can see why Las Vegas is the ideal place to live for young families, empty-nesters and seniors too.  Housing is very affordable throughout the entire area, and property taxes are very low.
